Canon/Openverse: Exactly what it says on the tin.

Familyverse: Sanctuary crossover: In which John and Harry ([personal profile] nomoreremedies) are the children of James Watson ([personal profile] ofcourseyoureimpressed), Abnormal and head of the UK Sanctuary. They've also spent most summers of their childhood at the Old City Sanctuary with Aunt Helen ([personal profile] ifyouaretiredofchains) and her sons, Sherlock ([personal profile] thisismorefun) and Mycroft ([personal profile] aboveallthat).
Eventually Harry ends up hooking up with Uncle Nigel's daughter Clara; and John goes off to war, gets shot, and ends up living with his crazy cousin, who is also a vampire now. Chaos and cases ensue.
Note: This verse includes incest of the Holmes variety, as well as threesomes (Mycroft/Sherlock/John). This also tends to be John's default verse.

Villageverse: An offshoot of Familyverse, in which Sherlock and Harry spend one bored and drunken (respectively) night together, and Harry gets pregnant. Because they are both dumb. Dorian ([personal profile] letmewritelies) ends up living with his father and his Uncle John while his mother tries to get clean, and basically has three fathers, two mothers, and no hope of a normal childhood.

Newsfleshverse: An offshoot of Villageverse, in which the kids exist in the world of Mira Grant's Newsflesh trilogy. The Rising happens. John and Sherlock, along with their son, decide to poke zombies with sticks, because what else are they going to do now that zombies exist and are taking over the world? Eventually they end up with their own blogging site: John is a straight-up Irwin, Sherlock an Irwin/Newsie hybrid, and Dorian a Fictional with a little bit of a Newsie side himself. And Mycroft is the UK's answer to the CDC.

Guardianverse: In which John and Harriet Watson are guardian angels. After going a little bit crazy when his charge gets killed in Afghanistan and refusing to leave the war and the rest of the men who need him until the Powers That Be get him shot, John comes back to London and discovers his next charge, one Sherlock Holmes. (This verse is also a massive crossover, but most other fandoms do not actually come into play. They just exist, and have guardians.)

Williamverse: In which Sherlock is plural, a fact John doesn't find out until he gets overwhelmed and William has to deal with the world for him for a while. John is accepting, and there is soon a friendship -- and more gradually, a relationship -- to be navigated between all three of them.

Teashopverse: In which Jim Moriarty runs a teashop (and occasionally does crime on the side), Sherlock Holmes is a writer who frequents said shop, and John Watson ends up as Sherlock's publicist somewhere along the way.
